CASE: Hollywood Gelato

It must be tough having an ice cream parlour in Toronto. For one, ice cream tends to be a summer treat...and with 4+ months of cold weather and another 4 of chilly weather...I don't see many people having a craving for it on a regular basis.

Hollywood Gelato, found in family-oriented Leaside, is a serious hot spot. I have been there 3 times already in the past 2 weeks and everytime I have been, there has been a line-up out the door. Albeit, the weather has been pretty humid and hot in the city -thus, being very busy...but I think this corner cafe offers more than just a regular ice cream and cone.

With flavours like Tahitian Vanilla, Valhrona Chocolate (that's right!)...and several fruit flavours that are sugar free and dairy free - I can already say confidently that it is a step above Dairy Queen and Baskin Robbins (I do really like these places too!) and what they have to offer. Sorry, Valhrona chocolate kicks any Nestle product's ass any day...and any place my diabetic dad can get a treat - is cool by me.

Okay, back to my point...I started to look at their other product offerings and how they can stay alive during the winter months...besides the over 16 gelato flavours they have: Valrohna hot chocolate, several desserts (Dufflet like sizes)...and other treats that can be enjoyed during those cold winter months...

What is the final piece de resistance? Price. For 2 - two hearty gelato scoops (you can have 2 different flavours) in a waffle cone (extra)...you are looking at $7. I think it is a pretty decent price, considering the quality and quantity...also factor in the social aspect...and you got a great all-around dessert venue.
