This morning, I was on the bobo version of Walt Disney World's Monorail - The Scarborough RT.
I typically stick to the Yonge/University Line, most of which is underground. But to be above ground...what another world. I mean, the sights...the view...sunny industrial Scarberia here I come...
Oh right, let me also mention how small the train is...families had a lovely time entering and fitting in the train with a stroller...forget it if you are on a wheelchair and the train is slightly busier than normal. Oh, and those big windows are helpful too - you will need them to look out for your stop...no sound system here (or at least ours wasn't working).

That's funny. I live at the final stop, Town Centre, and my niece who lives downtown visited me a couple weeks ago. It was her first time on the RT also, and she had a similiar reaction. I guess it must be a bit of a joke to the mass transit travelers...actually I think Scarborough is in general.
It just seemed so odd that the train was so small. It felt like a ride, not a public transportation system. Scarborough is a bit odd to me in general. I have no reason to go there, so everytime I do, it feels like a whole other world.
Well, Scarborough overall to me is pretty disgusting, but I happen to like where I live, next to the Town Centre...I think it is cleaner and safer there then anywhere else in Scarborough(although someone was stabbed to death outside my condo last year). Being next to the 401 is the main reason why I am there because it's easy access to work, but besides that, you couldn't pay me to live in Scarborough.
Funny enough but my stop in Scarborough was the Town centre. I did notice the nice condo's around it.
Hate to say it but it maybe time to look for a new job. I used to work in richmond Hill and couldn't take the commute. One of my main reasons for leaving.
The problem is my job is in Oshawa(even worse then Scarborough)...and I don't want to leave, I love it. So where I am is about as close to Oshawa as I can get and still be in the City, which I want to be...near the action :)
how about adding 5 minutes to your commute and moving to North York. There are tonnes of condos in the Yonge/401 area that are very nice. Hop onto the subway and you are downtown, hop into your car and you are in Oshawa...:)
Alas, work (and a good job at that!) do come first.
Yes, I know what you mean, that is a nice area. It's building up fast. My G/F and I are still debating if we should move into another condo(which more then likely would be that area), or buy a house instead probably in Markham. It's a really tough decision.
I can't even believe you are considering Markham...
1. no easy transit into the core - you NEED a car
2. suburbia (which to me is worse that Scarbaria)
3. Have you been on the 404? - not fun
Hopefully your grandfather is in great health, so that he can just hop on the subway and move around. There is more to do in that area that anywhere in Markham (sorry to knock it but it is true)...unless your raising a family, stay away like the plague.
just my two cents.
1. I think I will always drive...I hate public transportation
2. I can live with suburbia, after all I am from NFLD.
3. I agree, 404 drives me crazy.
My thinking is where can I buy a house that is relatively close to Oshawa, but at the same time in the city. The other area I have in mind is Richmond Hill. But I think because of those logistical problems, we are leaning towards another condo.
1. never say never...
2. it is a different type of suburbia!
ah well, I am just a big advocate of this city so feel the need to push people to see how great it is to live here.
Yes, from what I can tell you seem like a "city" girl. My g/f is one also, and even though I am from NFLD, I love being in the city, but I would like a nice "big" house and it seems like if you want a decent one, then you have to buy in the suburbs. I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too.
yes, that is very true. Seems like you need big dollars to own anything in the city. I saw the add for the Trump Tower yesterday (Bay & Adelaide), it was starting at $900,000.
If it the big house you want, you will have to go out to suburbia...unless of course you have a gabillion dollars.
gabillion...how much is that? I'm just kidding.
